About

I’m a theatre director with a diverse range of interests, from new writing and Shakespeare to musicals, physical comedy and large-scale family shows. My productions include Bad Jews (Arts Theatre, West End) and a new musical of Cinderella (Chichester Festival Theatre). I love to yo-yo between heartbreak and hilarity, and I’m especially drawn to that muddled space where they live together.

I’m a bookish type with a physical approach to rehearsal. I care deeply about great theatre writing, from the European and American canon to British new work. I’m excited by bold ideas, poetic sensibility and performances that surprise. I’m particularly interested in stories from marginalised voices, LGBTQIA+ experience, and narratives that cross cultural and linguistic borders – as well as seeing our classics with fresh eyes.

I’m passionate about actor training and artist development. I’ve taught and directed at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Chichester Festival Youth Theatre and other drama schools, and I regularly lead CPD workshops. Alongside directing, I’ve worked as an assistant and associate with Regent’s Park, Chichester Festival Theatre, Sheffield Theatres, Theatre Royal Bath, the West End and the RSC.

Curious about where it all began?

My first directing was at sixth form. I had written a musical with some friends but we had no director… I haven’t looked back since. I grew up dancing and my love of physical storytelling feeds into everything I do – from Shakespeare on big stages to collaborations with choreographers and puppeteers.
